The Health and Safety Task Force welcomes you back to the spring 2023 semester. We continue to monitor the College’s ongoing response to COVID-19 and other infectious diseases such as Monkeypox. We are writing to provide an update on COVID transmission rates, as well as steps to take if you feel unwell and another opportunity to be vaccinated on campus.

Transmission rates in Guilford County have steadily increased over the past few weeks and we now stand in a HIGH transmission rate. We STRONGLY RECOMMEND you to wear a mask when you are around others for extended periods of time. Masking will help keep yourself and others safe from air-borne viruses like COVID, influenza, and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus).

We continue to operate in Phase 5 of our activity matrix. In this phase, masking inside remains optional, although certain spaces may still require masking. Please continue to carry a mask with you at all times should you be requested to wear one in a particular classroom or other private space.

If you feel sick, please mask up, stay home, and obtain a COVID test from Student Health or Public Safety if you do not have a home test readily available. If you test positive, you should:

On Tuesday, Jan. 31, we will host a COVID booster and flu clinic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Boren Lounge of Founders Hall. Both the Pfizer and Moderna bivalent vaccine will be available to staff and students, and you must specify which one you prefer when signing up at this link. You will also need to bring your insurance card.

Finally, we wanted to make sure the campus community was aware of the upcoming visit for Guilford's Bryan Series lecture series with vaccine scientist Kizzmekia Corbett. As you may know, Dr. Corbett led development of the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19 and is a native North Carolinian.

There will be a session for students on campus in the afternoon and the main presentation at Tanger Center in the evening. Be on the lookout for more information about Dr. Corbett's visit in the upcoming weeks.

We remain committed to keeping our community informed about any potential health threats to campus!

Sincerely,
The Health and Safety Task Force
