George Guo Interviewed by Two Major U.S. Media

Political Science Professor George Guo was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal on Sept. 23. The Journal is writing the articles that "take a fresh look at Xi Jinping's family and professional background to identify some of the key individuals, events, and ideas that shaped his personality and politics, and to try to work out what Xi Jinping Thought means exactly, for China, the U.S., and the world." George shared important information during the two-hour interview, including details on Xi's childhood, his experience in the Cultural Revolution, his early career and professional and personal connections with the senior party and military leaders, and his political and economic programs after he took charge of the CCP.

The Los Angeles Times also interviewed George on Aug. 27. The 90-minute interview was conducted by Alice Su, the Times' Beijing bureau chief. The Times is working on "a story about the current Chinese leadership, how it was influenced by the Mao era, and whether there are parallels to be drawn between what's happening now and the way Mao concentrated his individual power." This interview also involved an in-depth analysis of Xi's current international and domestic policies and their impact on China, the world, and the Sino-U.S. relations.
