Biography

Catherine is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Writing Program and the Department of English and Creative Writing where she teaches first-year writing. Catherine joined Guilford in the fall of 2023; she enjoys designing hyper-local, place-based projects to promote a sense of belonging. She loves teaching at a small college with values that align with her pedagogy. Catherine's collaborative grading policy -- a version of ungrading -- prioritizes trusting students, fosters intrinsic motivation, and empowers students to write authentically and with agency.

Before starting at Guilford, Catherine taught composition and literature at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she earned her PhD in English. Her dissertation uses an intersectional ecofeminist lens to compare how Southern Black women and Southern White women write about the natural world.
