College Debut / Theatrical Education

Joshua Wilson ’26

Joshua Wilson ’26 has felt like he belongs at Guilford from day one. The Baltimore native says he loved the community feel of the campus when he first visited, noting the welcoming faculty members and students.

He was also drawn to the drama—the good kind.

Acting Aspirations

A double major in Theatre Studies and Education Studies with a minor in Philosophy, Joshua says he has loved theater since elementary school.

“I started taking theater as a serious career option for me around the 8th grade, and it was really pursuing high school theater that solidified for me that I wanted to learn as much as I could about it,” he says.

Joshua chose to add the Education Studies major because he says he would like to one day be part of the solution to education systems that hindered him when he was younger.

Joshua aspires to do screenwork in New York after he graduates and eventually move into education.

“Ideally, I’ll travel the world working on films, TV, and stage plays before transitioning to teaching when I’m ready to retire from that,” he says.

On Stage at Guilford

For the time being, Joshua is enjoying his college days as a first-year student at Guilford. Naturally, he is involved in the productions of the Theatre Studies department.

He was assistant director and assistant stage manager for the production of “Do You Feel Anger” and is the leader of the Revelers Club, a campus organization that puts on different types of theatrical productions.

“This semester, I’m preparing to both direct and act in the play “Stick Fly” with the Revelers Club,” he says. “I’ll be acting as Flip, one of the male protagonists of the show.”

Joshua has enjoyed his classes so far and appreciates the support of all his professors.

“Steve Mencarini, the Dean of Students, was my first professor at the school and he was really helpful in getting me adjusted to college life,” Joshua says. “He, along with the co-teacher of the class, Marius Pascale, made the transition to college a lot easier for me.”

Joshua is a firm believer that you get out of Guilford what you put into it. His advice?

“You have the full ability to create your own path. Whatever you want to do here, there’s either a place here to do it or other people who will help you do it,” he says. Take advantage of everything this school has to offer. You have full autonomy over what you get out of your time here. Make the best of it!”
