Love Wisdom at Guilford

Let your love of knowledge and wisdom grow at Guilford. This continually evolving form of study will develop your reasoning, writing, listening and speaking skills, preparing you for success in a multitude of fields, including public service.

You can enrich your philosophical studies by double-majoring in Philosophy and a second subject. Popular choices include History, Women's, Gender, and Sexuality studies, Political Science, Business and Music. A Philosophy major also prepares you for a variety of post-collegiate studies, including law school and graduate school.

As a Philosophy major, you’ll examine fundamental assumptions, raise seemingly impossible-to-answer questions, reflect on aspects of our everyday lives and analyze powerful philosophical texts. You'll also participate in intensive discussion and analysis of problems and theories that emerge from those texts and examine a range of human conceptual and value systems.

The Philosophy minor makes you aware of the breadth and depth of the field of Philosophy. Minors develop the skills and virtues central to philosophical inquiry and debate in four courses designed to engage students as active participants in inquiry and debate.

Major/minor requirements and course descriptions are available in the online version of the Guilford College Catalog. Use the keyboard shortcuts Control F for PC or Command F for Mac to search the document for your program.
