President's Update on Guilford Forward Fund

Today marks my one-month anniversary at Guilford College. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the occasion than with this announcement: The Guilford Forward Fund, which concluded on Jan. 31, raised nearly $6.7 million.

Read the full update from the Office of Advancement.

A year ago, Guilford’s Board of Trustees established the Guilford Forward Fund to help avoid massive cuts to the College’s faculty, staff, and academic programs. We were given until Jan. 31, 2022, to raise $6 million. In true Guilfordian fashion, you gave above and beyond, and for that I am very grateful.

Over the past year, nearly 3,000 alumni, faculty, staff, students, and Friends made gifts to Guilford. Among the many donations Guilford received, there were 18 gifts of $100,000 or more, including three bequests which totaled $720,808:

  • Margaret “Bo” Wooten '56: $300,000
  • Laurence Russell '68: $280,433
  • Violet Sharpe, the wife of Jule Sharpe '37: $140,375

The vast majority of gifts – more than 2,500 – came from donors who gave up to $1,000.

Every donation, no matter the size, is important, because behind each gift is a friend of Guilford with an unshakable belief that this College is making a difference for current and future students. Thank you to everyone who made the Guilford Forward Fund a success.

Warm regards,
Kyle Farmbry
President
