Flooding potential for Thursday: Update on Sept. 16, 2020

Good Morning,

A quick update on the potential for Flooding in Guilford County. Hurricane Sally will bring significant rain to the region on Thursday and the potential for localized flooding is increasing.  Models show between 3 - 6 inches of rain falling mainly on Thursday and Friday.  A Flash Flood Watch will go into effect Thursday morning through Friday evening.  Here is an excerpt from the National Weather Service briefing.

Here a few tips to stay safe during a Flash Flood Warning:

1. IF YOU ARE UNDER A FLOOD WARNING, FIND SAFE SHELTER RIGHT AWAY
2. Do not walk, swim or drive through flood waters. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
3. Just six inches of moving water can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.
4. Stay off of bridges over fast-moving water.
5. Depending on the type of flooding:

  1. Evacuate if told to do so.
  2. Move to higher ground or a higher floor.
  3. Stay where you are.
