Bathroom Usage

It is the policy of Guilford College to permit individuals to use any bathroom facility that meets their individual needs.

Purpose/Reason for Policy: To ensure that Guilford College’s restroom facilities meet the needs of all community members. 

Scope/Covered Persons: All members of the Guilford College Community 

Definitions:  

Gender Identity: a person's internal sense of being male, female, some combination of male and female, or neither male nor female

Gender Expression: the physical and behavioral manifestations of one's gender identity; the manner in which any individual’s gender identity is expressed, including, but not limited to, through dress, appearance, manner, or speech. 

All Gender Bathroom: a bathroom that anyone can use. These bathrooms can benefit many different people, including parents with children, people who may require the accompaniment of a caregiver of a different gender, trans and gender nonconforming people, or people who simply would prefer additional privacy.

The Policy: In keeping with the spirit of Guilford College’s Notice of Nondiscrimination, it is the intent of Guilford College to provide All Gender, Women’s, and Men’s bathrooms on campus. Students, faculty, staff, or visitors may use the bathroom that corresponds to their individual gender identity, regardless of gender expression.

Roles and Responsibilities: Anyone witnessing or experiencing any form of bias as a result of wanting to use or using the bathrooms on campus should immediately notify Public Safety or complete the Bias Incident Reporting Form (https://www.guilford.edu/health-and-safety/bias-incident-reporting-form) 

Compliance: All reported instances of bias and/or discrimination will be investigated by the Title IX Coordinator, Erickia Elbert, Director of Human Resources and Payroll, Bauman 105B, 336.316.2135, eelbert@guilford.edu
