Travel, learn & play the Guilford way: Exploring sport from Rome to Olympia

Guilford alumni and friends are invited on a nine-day journey through Italy and Greece March 6-15.

Experience the world the Guilford way: through curiosity, connection, and adventure, from the marble stadiums of Rome to the temples of Athens.

Do you ever wish you could study abroad again — or finally take that trip you missed? Here’s your chance to travel and learn the Guilford College way.

Guilford alumni and friends are invited next spring on a carefully curated nine-day journey through Italy and Greece March 6-15, 2026. Discover lands where ancient myths meet modern marvels, where marble stadiums and sunlit ruins still echo with the cheers of early Olympians, and where art, food and sport are woven into everyday life.

The trip will be an adventure from the rolling hills of Tuscany to the timeless temples of Athens, tracing the evolution of competition and creativity while savoring the beauty, history and soul that have inspired the world for millennia – all rooted in Guilford’s values of experiential learning and global citizenship.

Rome: Ancient Spectacle Meets Modern Sport

Guilfordians will attend two major sporting events — the Six Nations Rugby Championship (Italy vs. England) at Stadio Olimpico and Serie A Football (Lazio vs. Sassuolo) — while exploring the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill with expert guides. Participants will also engage with sport-for-development initiatives and visit historic sport facilities that highlight the social impact of athletics.

Athens & the Peloponnese: The Birthplace of Sport

In Greece, participants will experience EuroLeague Basketball (Panathinaikos vs. Žalgiris) at the Olympic Indoor Hall, tour the OAKA Olympic Athletic Center, and visit the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum. The group will also connect with Hestia FC, an organization empowering women and refugees through sport.

Olympia: Where It All Began

The journey concludes in Olympia, where travelers will participate in a mini-program at the International Olympic Academy, walk the grounds of Ancient Olympia, and explore the archaeological museum dedicated to the birthplace of the Olympic Games.

The $6,200 per-person trip includes centrally located accommodations, daily breakfast, private coach transport, a Rome-to-Athens flight, guided tours, event tickets, and expert-led sessions. $1,000 of the cost is a tax-deductible gift to Guilford, supporting the College’s greatest needs.

An information session will be held virtually on November 13 to share more details and answer questions.

Whether you’re a sport management professional, history enthusiast, or just eager to reconnect with fellow Quakers, this journey promises to be both inspiring and unforgettable.
