Chase Ellis, Robert Samples and Dawson Edwards, all members of Guilford's men's basketball team, received their MBAs Saturday at Guilford.
Family and friends packed into the Carnegie Room at Hege Academic Commons to celebrate 26 students who received their graduate desgrees.
“The story of your life is not really about you. It’s about others. But make no mistake. There will be obstacles along the way. By putting others first, you will look back and see the irony is this: your own life will be more blessed.”
Guilford College honored 26 master’s graduates Saturday morning in a ceremony celebrating not just their academic achievement but the power of values-driven education.
Held in the Carnegie Room of the Hege Academic Commons, the Commencement ceremony recognized 10 students from the Master of International Sport Management (MISM) program and 16 students from the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
Michael Dutch, Director of Guilford’s MBA program, addressed graduates and guests with a call to action grounded in Guilford’s values and the words of Quaker writer William Penn. “True godliness doesn’t turn men out of the world,” Penn once wrote, “but enables them to live better in it and excites their endeavors to mend it.”
“This is why Guilford has an MBA program,” Michael said. “Can I be so bold as to say that the world would be a better place if our organizational leaders lived the values Guilford professes?”
Michael White, Director of the MISM program, urged graduates to lead with empathy and resilience. “The story of your life is not really about you,” he said. “It’s about others. But make no mistake. There will be obstacles along the way. By putting others first, you will look back and see the irony is this: your own life will be more blessed.”
Guilford College offers master's degrees designed to foster interdisciplinary thinking, rigorous academics, and collaboration. Unlike many master’s programs in Business and Sport Management, Guilford’s programs have a strong ethics component.
Graduate students receive personalized advising, small class sizes, and hands-on opportunities that help elevate their careers and expand their impact.
The MBA and MISM programs can be completed full-time or part-time, with flexible scheduling to support working professionals. A Master of Criminal Justice is also offered and can be completed in as little as 18 months.
