Scholars-At-Risk is an international network that helps arrange temporary research and teaching positions at member institutions.
Guilford College has joined Scholars-At-Risk, an international network of more than 500 higher education institutions dedicated to protecting scholars in peril for their work back home. Scholars-At-Risk helps arrange temporary research and teaching positions at member institutions.Guilford hopes to invite an at-risk scholar to campus by 2026. For now the College plans to incorporate SAR’s mission into several spring semester classes.
Gül İnanç, a visiting scholar at Guilford, says so far four faculty members have agreed to build a research and learning component into their classes that will revolve around students supporting an at-risk scholar. At-risk can mean everything from being fired to being imprisoned or even executed.
“Guilford students do amazing work and this is something I think they’ll really be engaged in,” says Gül.
Guilford will invest in the research and learning component of SARS for two years before possibly bringing an at-risk scholar to campus to teach and share their story.
The program will be hosted within the College’s Center for Principled Problem Solving and Excellence in Teaching.
Faculty interested in learning more about Guilford’s involvement with SARS can take part in a Dec. 19 webinar. For more information and to receive the webinar link please contact Gül İnanç at at gul.inanc@initiativeour.org.
