Biography


Michael A. Dutch, who joined the Guilford College faculty as Professor in 2014, is the Seth ’40 and Hazel ’41 Macon Professor of Business Management. He is also Director of the College’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program and Chair of the Department of Business and Accounting

Michael oversees the management component of the Business curriculum and teaches Principles of Management, Business Strategy, and other courses. He has developed and revised multiple courses for the Business major, and has taught courses that fulfill many key requirements of Guilford’s general education curriculum.

He has taught in the College’s Wiser Justice prison initiative and taught Essentials for Business courses in Guilford’s partnership with IFB Solutions, the largest employer of people who are blind or visually impaired in the U.S.

Michael writes and conducts research, currently focusing on organizational culture, strategy, and performance. He has led a study abroad program in India. His publications and presentations are substantial and wide-ranging, including peer-reviewed articles, award-winning presentations, and contributions to standard textbooks in the field.

Prior to Guilford, from 2004-14, Michael was the Fred L. Proctor Sr. Professor of Business at Greensboro College, where he taught various management courses. He was Director of the Professional Bachelor’s in Business Administration Program and Department Chair.

Earlier in his career, Michael was on faculty at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill., and LeTourneau University in Houston, Texas, and was a Teaching Fellow at the University of Houston. 

He developed first-hand knowledge of business operations in positions over a 10-year period with Frito-Lay, Chicago Customer Service Center, LSG Sky Chefs, and Qualex, a division of Kodak.
