Chef and Humanitarian Jose Andres in Bryan Series Feb. 28

Award-winning chef Jose Andres will be featured in the fourth Guilford College Bryan Series program of the season at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts.

He will make remarks and then be joined by Stephen Yalof, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tanger Outlets, for a conversation about the power of food to change the world. Tickets are available at the Tanger Center box office or Ticketmaster.com.

José is an internationally-recognized culinary innovator, author, educator, humanitarian and chef/owner of an award-winning group of three dozen restaurants. He is a pioneer of Spanish tapas in the United States and is known for his groundbreaking avant garde cuisine.

In 2010, Jose established World Central Kitchen (WCK), a non-profit specializing in delivering food relief in the wake of natural and humanitarian disasters. WCK has provided 200 million meals to displaced Ukrainians since the war with Russia began in February 2022.

It served nearly 4 million meals to the people of Puerto Rico following the devastation of Hurricane Maria in 2017. The organization partnered with restaurants, small farms and community leaders around the country to combat food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Born in Spain, Jose became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2013. He is the author of We Fed an Island: The True Story of Rebuilding Puerto Rico, One Meal at a Time. He is the subject of a documentary, “We Feed People,” directed by Ron Howard, which was released in 2022. “Jose Andres & Family in Spain,” a six-part series, premiered on Discovery+ in December.

Jose was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in 2012 and 2018 and received the
National Humanities Medal in 2015. He has won the James Beard Foundation’s Outstanding
Chef and Humanitarian of the Year awards.

Stephen joined Tanger Outlets in April 2020 as President and Chief Operating Officer, bringing with him over 25 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry, with a primary focus on the retail space, before succeeding Steven B. Tanger as CEO in January 2021.

Tanger Outlets is a leading operator of upscale, open-air outlet centers with 37 locations and an additional center currently under development across 20 states and Canada.

The Bryan Series season concludes with Pulitzer-winning investigative reporter Ronan Farrow on Tuesday, April 4.
