Biography
Chief of Staff & Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees
Adjunct Professor, International Studies, Integrative Experiences & Wiser Justice
Dr. Meredeth D. Summers serves as Chief of Staff and Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. A member of the President’s Cabinet, she provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Office of the President, coordinates governance and board activities, and manages major institutional initiatives and events.
She joined Guilford in 2011 and has served in several leadership roles, including Director of Donor Relations, Stewardship & Special Events and Director of Conferences and Events. In her current role, she serves on and manages senior leadership, the Board of Trustees, and campus partners to advance the College’s mission and strategic priorities.
Dr. Summers also contributes to the academic life of the College as an adjunct professor and mentor to students. She teaches in Integrative Experiences, the International Studies Department and the Wiser Justice Program, supporting incarcerated and traditional students through courses that emphasize social justice, leadership, and community engagement.
A native of Elon, North Carolina, Dr. Summers earned bachelor’s degrees in sociology and religion from Wake Forest University. She holds a Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an Executive Juris Doctor from Purdue University Global, and a Doctor of Strategic Leadership from Regent University.
In addition to her work in higher education, Dr. Summers is an entrepreneur and consultant who has founded and co-owned several businesses in consulting, tax services, hospitality, and wellness. She is also the founder and advisor of Voices of Victory, Guilford College’s gospel choir.

U.S.–South Africa Virtual Incubator (USSAVI)
Dr. Summers serves as Program Director for the U.S.–South Africa Virtual Incubator, an international entrepreneurship initiative connecting students from the United States and South Africa. The program supports collaborative venture development, mentorship, and cross-cultural innovation, equipping students to launch socially impactful business ideas while learning global entrepreneurship practices.
South Africa Study Abroad Program
Dr. Summers launched and leads a study abroad experience to South Africa that immerses students in global leadership, social justice, and cross-cultural engagement. The program introduces students to South Africa’s history, entrepreneurship ecosystem, education system, and community development initiatives while fostering meaningful cross-cultural learning experiences and language immersion.
