Title IX Coordinator and Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Barbara J. Lawrence

Barbara brings a wide range of experience in Title IX, trauma-informed investigation, restorative justice, domestic violence and adjudication. Prior to and working at Guilford Barbara served in different capacities in law enforcement and higher education. She has more than 20 years of experience that includes domestic-violence investigator, trainer, prosecutor and police instructor in both New York City and Indiana. Barbara is an Associate Professor of Justice and Policy Studies, has served as Associate Academic Dean and has a JD and master's in Public Affairs.

Steve Mencarini

Founders Hall, 210

Steve serves as the Dean of Students and is the liaison between Title IX and the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. Steve works with Title IX accommodations, provides support to both reporting and responding students, and helps to educate the campus community about the importance of Title IX.

Jermaine serves as Director of Public Safety for Guilford College and the Lead Title IX Investigator.

Stephanie Flamini

Stephanie serves as the Assistant Director of Athletics, Senior Woman Administrator, and Head Women's Basketball Coach. She is the liaison between Title IX and the Athletics Department and focusing on Gender Equity. Stephanie is also a member of the Equity in Athletics Committee.

Carolyn (Shay) Harger

Assistant Director for Title IX Compliance

As Assistant Director, Shay assists the Title IX Coordinator with compliance matters related to resolution and investigation of all reports of sexual harassment, sexual violence and intimate partner violence involving students, visitors, vendors and for training, prevention and education efforts. Prior to working at Guilford, Shay served as Director of Victim Services at Family Services of the Piedmont. She brings more than 14 years of victim-services experience, both in direct service and administration. Shay is also a Child Forensic Interviewer and holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
