Biography

Having graduated from Guilford College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1997, my journey into the world of pottery originally led me to Atlanta, where I worked full time making pots. In the spring of 1999, I returned to Guilford to impart my knowledge and passion for ceramics. Initially intending to teach just one class for a single semester, my connection with Guilford endured, and I have been actively engaged in teaching ceramics on a half-time basis ever since.

Over the years, the program at Guilford has evolved and expanded from gas and soda kilns, to now encompassing the fascinating realm of wood firing. It has been immensely gratifying to witness and contribute to this growth.

My approach to teaching revolves around sharing the artistry and craftsmanship of pottery. While the potter's wheel takes center stage in most classes, I also encourage students to explore the intricacies of hand-building. It's a holistic learning experience that nurtures creativity and hone technical skills.
In parallel, my personal studio endeavors delve deeply into the realms of functional pottery and the creation of captivating hand painted animal and bird imagery. This dual commitment allows me to straddle both the teaching and working artist worlds, bringing a unique perspective to my role at Guilford College.

As I continue to guide and inspire the next generation of ceramic artists, I remain deeply connected to the ever-evolving landscape of pottery, finding fulfillment in both the educational and creative aspects of this enriching journey.
