Religious Studies professor Jill Peterfeso and Theatre Studies professor Chad Phillips were honore for their work in the classroom. Taleshia Bowen ’05, Director of Counseling, was also honored.
Guilford College recognized the achievements of students, faculty and staff Wednesday during its annual Spring Awards ceremony in the Carnegie Room.
The ceremony traditionally highlights excellence across campus, with academic department awards, scholarships and special recognition for educators and staff members whose work has made a lasting impact on students and the broader College community.
This year’s recipients of the prestigious Bruce B. Stewart ’61 Awards for Teaching & Community service were:
Jill Peterfeso, Eli Franklin Craven and Minnie Phipps Craven Professor of Religious Studies, received the Tenured/Teaching Excellence Award for her outstanding teaching, dedication to student learning and sustained contributions in the classroom.
Chad Phillips, Visiting Assistant Professor for Theatre Studies, received the Non-Tenured/Teaching Excellence Award for excellence in teaching and his impact on students through innovative and engaging instruction.
Taleshia Bowen ’05, Director of Counseling, received the Staff/Community Service Award for exemplary service to Guilford and meaningful contributions to the campus community.
President Jean Bordewich presented the Stewart Awards to “celebrate the people whose daily work defines the Guilford experience.”
“Great teaching changes lives, and dedicated service strengthens the community around it,” she told a room filled with students, faculty and staff. “This year’s honorees represent the very best of Guilford.”
In addition to the teaching and service awards, Guilford recognized student achievement through several scholarships and honors.
The Charles A. Dana Scholarship, recognizing academic excellence, leadership and service was awarded to:
