College preparing for winter storm this weekend

The NWS forecast calls for icy conditions across Central North Carolina beginning Saturday afternoon.

Guilford faculty, staff and students,

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Central North Carolina from Saturday afternoon through Monday afternoon with the strong possibility of icy precipitation that could result in power outages and hazardous travel in some areas.

We cannot be certain what the impact will be for Guilford College, but we are making preparations to ensure the well being of the campus community. Messages about any changes in the academic schedule, dining schedule and other operations will be delivered as soon as decisions are made.

Please note:

  • Most communications will be by email and text. Keep your devices charged. Faculty and staff members should confirm that a cell phone number is entered in their contact information in Workday in order to receive emergency alert texts.
  • In addition to email and text notifications, College closings or delays will be shared on the Guilford.edu home page and main College social media accounts.
  • In the event of power outages on campus:
    • Community Directors and RAs will monitor student needs and the conditions in the residence halls
    • Founders Hall will be open with heat and power in the dining hall and power in Boren Lounge
    • Bauman will be open with heat and power in two main-floor locations 102 and 104
    • If circumstances allow, the P.E. Center may be open. If open, hours of operation will be shared in a community wide message.
    • Card swipe access should continue to be functional in buildings across campus

For more information, including details about staffing by essential personnel in the event of delays and closings, please review the College’s Weather Emergency Policy.

Community members are encouraged to be alert to all notifications, be extra careful in moving about in icy conditions and reach out to Public Safety, Facilities, Student Affairs, Residential Education & Housing and Academic Affairs as needed.
