Jazzlyn Gwyn: Finding herself in Guilford’s past and present

Jazzlyn Gwyn loves Guilford's diversity. She’s finding a community where she belongs and a personal connection to African American history.

What made you choose Guilford? I chose Guilford primarily because of the diversity. When I walk around campus, I feel like I’m not alone, and I really enjoy the community built here.

What have you learned about yourself in your first semester? As an African American, learning about African American history here and the Underground Railroad has built a personal connection. I’m learning not only about myself as an individual, but also about my history. It’s not a direct connection, but it still feels related to me.

What would you tell a high school senior who’s considering Guilford? Guilford is not only a really good institution, but there's a strong community here. All the staff are  helpful, and if you have an issue, you’re not alone. Guilford is a place of new opportunities, and you can definitely build connections.
