Jaylynn Easton: She’s more social than she thought

At Guilford, a close-knit community helped Jaylynn step outside her comfort zone and discover a more outgoing side of herself.

You play basketball. What made you choose Guilford over the other schools recruiting you? The community really drew me in. Everyone felt like a family here. Compared to the other schools, I felt like it was home, a second home for me.

What have you learned about yourself since coming to Guilford? I’m a lot more social than I thought I was. I’ve really broken out of my shell. I was worried about being an introvert, but I realized I’m a lot more extroverted than I originally thought. Everywhere I go, I meet someone I already know. When I go to the cafeteria or a classroom, I know at least two or three people in the room.

Who at Guilford has made an impression on you so far? I really like Vera Castro, my Spanish professor. She’s really good with one-on-one help. If I’m struggling with something, she always comes up and helps me out. All my professors are like tthat at Guilford. I never feel like I have to struggle with my classes on my own.
