The Summer Guitar Institute takes the place of the EMF Classical Guitar Summit, held for 10 years until 2024.
We have a goal of continuing the most immersive and highest quality summer guitar workshop, and we promise to deliver a life-changing experience for our students.
Guilford College will again host an influential guitar educational program when the U.S. Guitar Orchestra Summer Guitar Institute debuts July 22-Aug. 1, directed by Provost and Dana Professor of Music Kami Rowan.
The 10-day Summer Guitar Institute is for ages 14 and up, and it takes the place of the Classical Guitar Summit at the former Eastern Music Festival, co-founded by Kami, that was held at Guilford each summer for 10 years through 2024.
Kami will be joined on the Institute faculty by Grammy-winning artist Jason Vieaux, composer, author and arranger Alan Hirsh and renowned performer and pedagogue Colin Davin.
“We have a goal of continuing the most immersive and highest quality summer guitar workshop, and we promise to deliver a life-changing experience for our students,” Kami said.
The Institute features:
- Masterclasses, private lessons and workshops
- High school and college competitions with prizes
- High level chamber music coaching
- Guitar orchestra with a new commissioned piece
- Composition, arranging, fretboard harmony and technique
There will be a one-day elementary and middle school workshop on July 25.
Details including an application form are on the U.S. Guitar Orchestra’s website. A $50 discount on registration for the full workshop is available through Feb. 15.
Kami created the U.S. Guitar Orchestra that has toured internationally, and she has taught classical guitar at Guilford for more than 30 years.
