She gives because Guilford aligns with her values

Sarah Glover '88 gives back to Guilford because she wants future students to experience the positive impact the College had on her.

Sarah Glover ’88 moved from Greensboro after graduating from Guilford. But she kept feeling the tug from both the city and College. She moved back a few years later and loves being close to both.

“There’s just something about Guilford and Greensboro,” says Sarah, the Director of Family Success Centers for the United Way of Greater Greensboro, where she has worked for 14 years. “They both feel like home.”

Sarah graduated with a degree in Psychology and has spent most of her life working in the nonprofit sector. Her voice warms when she thinks about her time at Guilford. Study Abroad in Paris … the clubs she was a part of at Guilford … working on her honor’s thesis … studying alongside older Center for Continuing Education students.

“All those experiences have made me who I am today,” she says.

These days at United Way Sarah brings together partners across nonprofit, business and government sectors to help families with education, career development, financial skills and health and wellness support.

Sarah wasn’t always in the position to give to Guilford, but as her career progressed she started thinking about ways to give back to a College that has given her so much.

She says she decided to start giving to causes and institutions “that let me put my money where my values are.”

A few years ago she arranged to make a monthly recurring gift to Guilford. Besides helping other Guilfordians down the road, it keeps her connected to a place she loves.

“Guilford has been so influential to me in my life,” she says. “It opened my world, taught me how to see things differently. Guilford gave me the confidence to go out and succeed. That’s why I give. I want others to have the same opportunities Guilford gave me.”

Elizabeth Freeze, Director of Development for Major Gifts at the College, says monthly gifts like’s Sarah’s “help to support the College and our community in an ongoing way. These contributions elevate the values of the College and give students life-changing experiences.”

It’s easy to make a recurring gift online. For more information contact Elizabeth at efreeze@guilford.edu
