Sonalini Sapra Accepted to Mellon-funded Teacher Scholars Program


Sonalini Sapra, Associate Director of the Center for Principled Problem Solving and Excellence in Teaching, will participate in the Mellon-funded Civic Engagement & Voting Rights Teacher Scholars Program hosted at Clemson University June 6 and 7.

The program aims for teacher-scholars to work together to create open-resource educational materials for improving civic and voter rights education in college and university courses. She was among 16 participants selected from nearly 80 applicants from 28 states.

Sonalini, who also teaches Political Science and Justice & Policy Studies at Guilford, recently co-authored a paper, “Seeking Justice, Seeking Hope: Refugee Resettlement Campuses and Transformative Pedagogy in Higher Education,” that was published by the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities.

Other co-authors of the paper were Christian Matheis, Visiting Professor of Justice & Policy Studies, and Diya Abdo, Lincoln Financial Professorship in English and Creative Writing, and founder of Every Campus a Refuge.
