President Appointed to Alliance Steering Committee

Kyle Farmbry has been appointed to the Steering Committee of the President’s Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, joining 22 other college and university presidents and chancellors in an advisory role with the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit.

Kyle is one of four new steering committee members joining the President’s Alliance in October. The organization is dedicated to increasing public understanding of how immigration policies and practices impact students, campuses and communities.

Established in 2017, the Alliance supports policies that create a welcoming environment for immigrant, undocumented and international students on more than 550 member campuses across the nation.

"The Presidents' Alliance is thrilled to have Kyle Farmbry join our Steering Committee and to benefit from his demonstrated experience, dedication, and leadership on our core issues," said Miriam Feldblum, Executive Director of the Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration. "Higher education leaders and institutions have an essential voice in promoting and implementing policies and supports to meet the needs of immigrant and refugee students, and both Guilford College and the Presidents' Alliance are strengthened by having President Farmbry help us navigate these important topics."

Kyle, who became the 10th President of Guilford College in January 2022, has a longstanding commitment to matters concerning immigrants and refugees.

For example, in 2017, while Dean of the Graduate School and a professor at Rutgers University, Newark, he served as one of the founding members of the University Alliance for Refugees and at Risk Migrants, which aims to engage universities and their communities in local and international advocacy efforts on behalf of refugees and at-risk migrants.

In 2016 he served as a Fulbright Fellow examining European Union immigration policies — with an emphasis on the challenges and management of the North African refugee movement and integration in the nation of Malta.

Well before he became a candidate for the Guilford presidency, Kyle became acquainted with Every Campus a Refuge, a movement founded at the College in 2015 to leverage resources at campuses in the U.S. to support refugee acclimation and resettlement.

Kyle is the only member of the steering committee representing a college or university in North Carolina.
