Timothy Kircher Presents Italian Lecture

H. Curt ’56 and Patricia S. ’57 Hege Professor of History Tim Kircher presented a lecture to an audience in Arezzo, Italy, and via Zoom on the topic of humanist exchanges of letters during the Renaissance.

The lecture, presented in Italian on Dec. 10, was entitled “Cura come cultura: Lo scambio di lettere da Petrarca agli umanisti del Quattrocento,” or “Care as Culture: The Exchange of Letters from Petrarch to Fifteenth-Century Humanists.” It was held at the Casa del Petrarca, Petrarch’s House, in Arezzo and was organized by the Accademia Petrarca di Lettere, Arti e Scienze and the Department of Humanities at the Università degli Studi di Urbino. The lecture explored the way humanists used learning to deepen the care and connection they felt for others, and thus it discussed the practice of narrative medicine in the health humanities.
