COVID-19 Update From the Office of the President

To Faculty, Staff, and Students:

Due to the number of positive COVID results yielded during our testing clinic on Friday, Jan. 22, we will be taking additional actions to safeguard the health of our community. A total of 32 community members tested positive, representing an 11% random positivity rate. This includes 12 on-campus students, 11 off-campus students, 7 staff and 2 faculty. COVID response staff are in touch with these individuals and will be conducting contact tracing and isolation/quarantine protocols.

Per my consultation with Public Safety Director Jermaine Thomas and the rest of the President’s Cabinet, we will continue to operate under Phase 2 of our Health and Safety COVID activity matrix. At the same time, we are implementing these additional safety measures:

  • CLASSES: All classes will continue exclusively online/remote-only for at least the next two weeks (through Feb. 5). The status of the library and other academic spaces on campus is being evaluated. More details will be forthcoming from the Provost’s Office later today.

  • DINING SERVICES: All meals will be provided exclusively on a “to go” basis through at least Feb. 5.

  • RESIDENCE HALLS: Residence Halls will remain open and students are expected to stay on campus and in their own rooms. More details regarding dining and residential life will be shared by the Provost’s Office later today.

  • ATHLETICS: Athletics Director Sharon Beverly is working with Jermaine on an updated game plan for our student athletes and coaches/teams. Please be watching for a detailed update from Sharon later today or this evening.

  • COLLEGE FACULTY AND STAFF: All faculty and staff who are able to work remotely are required to do so for at least the next week (through Jan. 29). For those whose duties require an on-campus presence, please consult with your direct supervisor regarding any modified expectations.

Thank you for your attention and continued strict adherence to the essential health and safety protocols designed to protect the health of our Guilford College community. Please be watching for additional details and updates as referenced in the bullet points above.
