Get to Know Guilford’s Res Halls

Guilford College is a residential campus, which means students live on campus for four years. First-year students stay in either Binford or Milner halls, which have both been recently renovated. Learn more about your future home with these fun facts.

Binford Hall

1. During renovations, Binford Hall, constructed in 1962, was restored to its beautiful mid-century style. Features include its original untouched walnut paneling and terrazzo floors.

2. Binford also features a new sunlit orangerie with an intimate courtyard and garden. The room is equipped with a 4K resolution projection system and the latest in A/V technology. With a full 360-degree view, this sunny spot right off the Quad is the perfect place to study, hold classes, or catch up with friends.

3. Binford’s lower level includes a full, modern demonstration kitchen and sunlit dining area. Students can gather to cook and eat meals, watch cooking demonstrations, and attend cooking classes.

4. Other Binford highlights include redesigned rooms and new gender-neutral and ADA compliant restrooms; community lounges and reading nooks equipped with improved WiFi; new elevators, plumbing, sprinkler system, and HVAC that brings in filtered, tempered, fresh air; and spaces for community use with new furnishings.

Milner Hall

1. During renovations, Milner Hall had several features restored to their original beauty, including granite entrances, ceramic tile, and solid iron railings.

2. Milner’s first floor is divided by gender and the rest of the floors are co-ed. The bathrooms are gendered and include private bathing and dressing areas.

3. Similar to Binford, Milner hosts a large demonstration kitchen. On the building’s lower level students also enjoy a community room with upgraded Bluetooth audio, smart TVs, ping pong, foosball, and a walk-out patio with a view of the student Quad.

4. Milner also hosts high-speed internet and LED lighting in each bedroom, an elevator, full self-service laundry,  interior and exterior security cameras, and an emergency power generator.

Res-Life Basics

1. Students must swipe their Quaker card to access all residence halls. Safety is a top priority at Guilford.

2. Each building also has Residence Advisers (RAs). RAs serve as residents’ first point of contact when they have any questions or concerns. They also host events throughout the semester to encourage you to get to know your neighbors.

3. Laundry for all residence halls is located in each facility and available all the time. Laundry costs are included with room and board so there’s no need to keep a stack of quarters on hand!
