Spend time in schools and challenge the way things are — our program closely adheres to the adage "Be the change you wish to see."

Study education. Teach children. Change lives.

Spend time in schools, challenge the way things are and ask yourself how you’re going to make learning work for the students — that’s how Education Studies students at Guilford College become top-notch teachers.

Our students care deeply about kids, and the greatest joy for faculty is seeing them out in the schools teaching and making an impact with all students, including those relegated to under resourced schools who have not had access to the opportunities every student deserves.

Not only will you receive practical student teaching experience, you’ll also develop close relationships through field supervision and one-on-one advising with faculty who are committed to your success.

The major in Education Studies is for you if your goal is to help every child learn and reach their fullest potential. The Education Studies minor allows you to explore the possibility of an education career without commitment to licensure.

Please note: Education Studies courses are not available in the evenings. Given this situation, we're not able to offer a Residency Program. Guilford's licensure-only program is conditionally available if day-time attendance is possible.

Internship Ideas

Students in local public schools grow close to Guilford’s Education Studies students as they work with children and their communities to help ensure every student is served and valued.

Alumni Careers and Graduate Schools

Graduates have entered a variety of teaching positions across the U.S. as well as abroad in Israel and South Africa, in the Peace Corps, as tutors in educational support companies and in nonprofit organizations.

Hands-on Learning

Field experience begins early in Education Studies and culminates in powerful, closely supervised student-teaching. More than 95 percent of our students are hired to teach within one semester after graduation and licensure completion, and 100 percent have gotten into the graduate programs of their choice.
