Academic Support

Successful Guilford College students take advantage of all the academic resources at their disposal. And Guilford offers many support services!

Academic advising at Guilford is far more than the two simple words suggest. We take to heart our responsibility to guide you through your academic choices as well as your life choices. Your Career, Academic, and Professional Exploration (CAPE) adviser will assist you in choosing courses and independent studies, obtaining internships, planning for a variety of available study abroad experiences, and preparing for life after graduation.

As a first-year student, a team of faculty, staff, and students are here support you. In addition to your CAPE adviser, as a first-year student you'll work with an interdisciplinary teaching team in your first class. Initiate is designed to you off to a strong start at Guilford. This course covers everything from readiness for college-level coursework and collaboration to personal discernment related to academic and career exploration.

Hege Academic Commons is a symbol of Guilford's academic excellence and institutional distinctiveness in furthering innovation through collaboration. As a dynamic learning environment, it fosters a culture of scholarly exploration and experimentation, promotes creativity and innovation, and provides information and technology resources to advance Guilford's unique liberal arts experience.

The Learning and Writing Center

The Learning and Writing Center welcomes all learners, teaching them to be more effective and engaged scholars.


Learning and Writing Center services include: professional and student-to-student tutorial services for writing, study skills, math, the sciences, foreign languages, and more; classes based on Learning Strategies; computer labs and quiet spaces to study.
