225 Graduating Students to be Honored at Commencement May 18


Guilford College will honor its graduating students at Commencement in its 187th year Saturday, May 18, at 9 am in Ragan-Brown Field House due to rain in the weather forecast. Approximately 200 students earning bachelor’s degrees and 25 earning master’s degrees will be recognized. 

President Kyle Farmbry will preside at his third Commencement ceremony, and Wendy Poteat ’10, President and Chief Executive Officer of shift_ed, will be the featured speaker. Kevin Buikpor ’24, a Cyber Network Security and CTIS double major, will speak for the graduating class.

Algernon Sydney Sullivan Awards for excellence of character and service to humanity will be presented to graduating seniors Grace Christensen ’24 and Maren Lamb ’24 and community leader and alumnus John Googe ’50.

Jefferson-Pilot Professor of Justice & Policy Studies Sherry Giles will serve as faculty marshal and lead the Commencement processional.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Liz Nicholson ’12, Director of the Quaker Leadership Scholarship Program (QLSP), will welcome the graduating class as alumni.

Quaker Brass, the College Choir and the Guilford Jazz Ensemble will perform.

  • Sankofa pinning for African American students, Tuesday, May 14, 6:30 pm, Hege Academic Commons, Carnegie Room
  • QLSP graduation, Wednesday, May 15, 7 pm, Moon Room, Dana Auditorium
  • Toast to the Light (celebration for seniors), Thursday, May 16, 7:30 pm, Founders Terrace
  • Baccalaureate, Friday, May 17, 11 am in Dana Auditorium
