International Students

The President and the Board of Trustees at Guilford College have a strong commitment to welcoming international students to Guilford College. We want to invite you to become a valued member of our campus community.

Guilford College is leading the way to a better future. Our students learn to become risk takers, independent thinkers and empowered intellectuals driven by a strong moral compass. Together we are a community of active learners and passionate teachers emboldened by our beliefs in excellence, equality, integrity and compassion.

International students who are admitted and who enroll at Guilford College can be assured that they will be a part of a welcoming, supportive campus community and a safe and secure environment in which to learn and grow. We will assist you in the admission process, in obtaining a student visa and transitioning to the U.S., and may offer financial assistance in the form of merit-based scholarships.

How Does Guilford Make Admission Decisions?

The goal of the Guilford admission process is to select those international applications who will benefit most from a Guilford education and contribute significantly to the Guilford community. The admission committee thoroughly reviews each applicant to determine academic preparation as well as to evaluate other qualities such as leadership, creativity and school and community involvement.

First-year students:

We consider your coursework and grades, with the expectation that you will have at least four college-preparatory courses each year and the hope that you have challenged yourself with advanced courses where available. To the extent that we can, we also consider the level of competition in your secondary school. We will also consider all information available to us, including test scores, academic record, extracurricular activities, your personal essay and school recommendations from a counselor and a teacher.

Transfer students:

We consider your most recent academic performance as an indicator of your preparation and readiness for the Guilford experience. The admission committee thoroughly reviews each applicant to determine academic preparation as well as to evaluate other qualities such as leadership, creativity and school and community involvement. To the extent that we can, we also consider the level of rigor at your previous college(s) or university(ies). We will also consider all information available to us, including test scores, academic record, extracurricular activities, your personal essay and Dean of Students form.
