N.C. CPA Foundation Recognizes Students

Three Guilford Accounting students recently received scholarships for their outstanding success in their journey to becoming CPAs. Juan Vigoya-Astroz ’21 and Robb Stowe ’20 received the 2020 N.C. CPA Foundation Scholarship and Calyn Davis ’21 received the 2019 James McCoy Scholarship.

“Juan, Calyn, and Robb represented Guilford College very well in this year's N.C. CPA Foundation scholarships and are all excellent role models for other Accounting and potential Accounting students at Guilford College,” says Ron Cardwell, Professor of Accounting.

All three students were also Certified Tax Preparers at the Guilford College TaxHELP! Clinic earlier this spring, where they were able to provide free tax-preparation services to the Greensboro community free of charge. Juan and Robb are employed full time in accounting roles while pursuing their degrees, and Calyn is a student-athlete who successfully juggles her sport obligations with her Accounting studies.

“All the faculty in the Accounting Department, Ron Cardwell, Garland Granger, and Beth Parks, helped me immensely and really inspired and challenged me to be the best student that I could be. And this scholarship has greatly reduced my financial burden, allowing me to focus on my studies,” says Robb, who plans to sit for the North Carolina CPA exam following graduation in December.

Since 1984, the N.C. CPA Foundation has worked in partnership with NCACPA to provide scholarships to students wanting to explore an accounting career and understand the opportunities that come with the CPA credential. The foundation has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships, impacting nearly 1,700 accounting students in North Carolina.
