Associate Professor Eric Mortensen Presents Paper at Texas State University

Eric Mortensen, Associate Professor of Religious Studies and International Studies Program Coordinator, presented a paper at Texas State University on April 5 as part of a conference titled Of Gods and Monsters.

Eric's paper, “Of Monsters & Invisible Villages: Nags myi rgod Tales of the Tibetans of Gyalthang,” analyzes notions of transgression and inversion in stories about wild people in southeastern Tibet. Mortensen’s research, based on ethnographic and folkloric fieldwork, explores the folk-religious aspects of storytelling in the context of a decline in institutionalized Buddhism.
