Abdo and Bobroff publish on Senegalese author

Associate Professor of English, Diya Abdo and Associate Professor of French, Maria Bobroff's article entitled "Cross-Disciplinary Teaching of Mariama Bâ’s So Long a Letter" appears in the most recent issue of the Modern Language Association's ADE and ADFL Joint Issue Bulletin "Globalization and Literary Studies."

The paper began as a collaborative teaching unit supported by a Keiser-Stoneburner faculty development grant. In it, Abdo and Bobroff detail their pedagogy in team-teaching Senegalese writer Mariama Bâ’s novel Une si longue lettre/So Long A Letter. The paper explores how Abdo and Bobroff complicate Maria's French students' reading of the novel's Islamic feminist dimensions and Diya's English students' understanding of the translation's differences from the original French version. Ultimately, they expose their students to the text’s particular literary qualities as well as the various contexts at play in its production.
