President Jane Fernandes Joins U.S. College and University Leaders to Launch Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration

Guilford College President Jane K. Fernandes and more than two dozen distinguished American higher-education leaders across the United States have joined together to launch the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration.

The Alliance will engage in a collective effort to improve how colleges and universities address immigration-related matters affecting their campuses. Its goal is to work in an effectively unified manner to communicate the need for federal and state policies that create a welcoming environment for immigrant, undocumented and international students.
“We remain unwavering in our commitment to providing opportunities for these students,” Jane says. “Forming this alliance is our next step in ensuring that the public understands how immigration policies impact our students, campuses and communities. I’m very honored to be a part of this group of esteemed educators fighting to make sure that our campuses are welcoming and supportive to immigrants and undocumented students.”

Guilford College and Davidson College are the only North Carolina colleges represented in the Alliance.
