Timothy Kircher Publishes Article on Renaissance Humanism

Professor of History Timothy Kircher has published an article on the relation among Renaissance humanism, philosophy, and literature entitled “Landino, Alberti, and the Invention of the Neo-Vernacular” in Albertiana 19 (2016): 29-48.

The essay examines the ways that the humanist Leon Battista Alberti (1404-72) was commemorated by his colleague Cristoforo Landino (1424-98) for his integration of Latin linguistic forms into the Italian vernacular, and it demonstrates the manner in which, at least for the 15th century, the history of Renaissance language and literature is inseparable from the history of philosophy.
