Theatre studies major Riva Fairhall '17 has been accepted for a Scenic Design Internship at the prestigious Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts this summer. If one impressive internship weren't enough, Riva has also been awarded a yearlong design mentorship at the Wingspace Professional Mentorship program in New York.
The Williamstown Theatre Festival is one of the most distinguished summer theatres in the country, regularly employing outstanding professional actors, directors and designers. Internships are highly competitive, and Riva was selected from a large pool of applicants based on her portfolio submission.
The Wingspace Mentorship Program is a free, one-year professional development program which selects talented and passionate young artists and connects them to professional networks and resources. Mentorships are offered in direction, scenic design, costume design, lighting design, sound design and projection design. Only one candidate is accepted in each category. Riva will begin her scenic design mentorship in September.
In her theatre studies work at Guilford, Riva concentrated in the department's design/tech track. She has previously interned at PlayMakers Repertory Company in lighting design under Guiford guest artist Dominic Abbenante, and she has assisted Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Studies Robin Vest on several professional design assignments.
