Guilford Named a ‘Best Buy’

Fiske Guide to Colleges 2016 has named Guilford College to its list of 48 “best buy” colleges and universities.

Selected for their affordable cost and academic quality, the “best buys” located in North Carolina include only one other private school, Warren Wilson College, and three public ones, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

“Students who attend Guilford are engaged with one another in class and on campus in student life and government,” an English major told the guide, “and they also show a passion for spreading their compassion to those around them.”

The 2016 edition, on sale today, marks the 32nd anniversary of the popular guide created by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske. Schools in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom were considered for the list.

Guilford “supports me while allowing me to grow as a person,” another student said. “It gives me the tools I need to make a change in the world when I leave.”
