12 Places: Redux Opening Reception & Junkanoo Performance

September 20, 2019

You are cordially invited to attend the opening reception of Twelve Places: Redux from 6-8 p.m. on September 20, which will include a live Junkanoo Performance by BahaNation at 7:30 p.m.

This exhibition marks the 40th anniversary of an historic feminist exhibition held at the former Art School of Carrboro, which included 12 women artists that were members of Center/Gallery, a woman's space founded in 1977 in Chapel Hill. Twelve Places: Redux brings together four of the original Twelve Places artists (Hunter Levinsohn, Kaola Phoenix, Beatrice Schall and Hollie Taylor); four other original members of Center/Gallery (Bryant Holsenbeck, Ann Rowles, Rosie Thompson and Virginia Tyler); and four other women artists whom they have mentored (Blair Gray, Pamela Ferguson-Haggins, Carrie Nobles and Nicole Uzzell). Twelve Places: Redux celebrates the artists’ ongoing and evolving explorations of feminine consciousness and cultural identities, and reminds viewers that feminist issues then and now are not that dissimilar.
