Yachting Club Newsletter, 17 April
Greetings to all! My apologies for the tardiness of this newsletter. Better late than never.
For those of you who weren't at the last Yachting Club meeting and those of you who were but have bad memories, here's a recap of last week's meeting:
0. Moment of Darkness - Further proof that Brock is a Jedi Master, because he wasn't even there but it's still his fault.
1. Shades of Fae - Last Saturday was the very last session!
2. EGG & game nights over the summer - For those of you who will be around over the summer, there will be plenty to do. Jon Hatch would like to continue game nights into the summer, and we would also like to remind everyone that the summer is a perfect time to run or join an indy game.
3. Bonfire - Should be on the 20th. This is when the new officers are announced. As per tradition, it will be (should be) by the lake, and there will be much food to munch upon. Also, don't forget about the Blood of the Club! For those of you who don't know, this is also a part of Yachting tradition. Basically, everyone brings a liquid in a SEALED, NEVER BEFORE OPENED container. This liquid cannot be alcohol, dairy (or any other animal byproducts), hot sauce, corn oil or similar products, anything with peanuts or other ingredients potentially hazardous to people with allergies, coffee, or anything that is harmful. These liquids will be mixed together to form the Blood of the Club, which the new and old officers (and whoever else wants to) must drink. In the past we've had various juices, sodas, and strange ingredients such as chlorophyll (yes, chlorophyll).
4. Study break will be on the 29th and will be run by the new officers. We'll have fun stuff for you to do for when you want to take a break from studying.
5. Elections - Officer elections were held! New officers will be announced at the Bonfire.
Demo - SOCK BABY
Sneak Peek into next week (err, this week...that is, this evening):
0. Moment of Darkness - yet again
1. Bonfire - see above
2. SoF Reveal Session - Date to be announced! This will be both a recap and the chance for all the players to reveal their character's secret!
3. Study break - hrmm...see above
4. Summer EGG point - GAMES = FUN. SUMMER SHOULD BE FUN. PLAY GAMES IN SUMMER.
Demo - The Prisoner

Yachting Club Newsletter, 9 April
Salutations, yachters! Welcome to another Yachting Club Newsletter! Please, try to contain your excitement. We all know you’ve been waiting almost a week for this moment.
Here’s a recap of last meeting, in case you weren’t there or just plain forgot what we talked about:
Moment of Darkness – Need I say more?
The Obligatory GuilcoEGG Point Will Not Occur This Week point, or, "Join GuilcoEGG!"
How did the castle trip go? We decided it was most awesome. We figured out who the bad guy was (it was Shope, who knew?) and there was much sneakery (well, it’s a Vampire game).
Elections – Elections will take place on Thursday! Be there!
Discussion of candidates – Each candidate talked about their qualifications, and other yachters put their two cents in.
Announcements – Should be pretty self explanatory.
Demo – We didn’t have one!
Aaaaaaaaand here’s a sneak preview of next week’s meeting:
Moment of Darkness, or “A good time to steal your neighbor’s dice”
Elections – Elections for club officers for next year will be taking place early on in the evening. Remember, if you can’t make it, please email it in by midnight on Thursday.
Shades of Fae – Guess what, folks? The last session is this Saturday! Come, be a faerie and witness the dramatic conclusion of an epic tale!
GuilcoEGG – This point actually exists this week. That’s because summer’s coming up, and those of you who will be in the area should look into joining or running some indy games over the summer. A lot of these games are really unique, interesting, and fun, and are worth a shot – or a campaign. Check it out.
Bonfire – The bonfire is the annual celebration of new officers! And it’s coming up!
Study Break – Study break shall occur soon. Just a heads up.
Demo – Sock baby! Stay and enjoy!
That’s all folks!

· Castle Recap: It was a lot of fun, we had some really cool characters and the plot was fun and interesting. It did rain, so we stayed inside. By the way, the Butler did it!
· Elections/Dick Dyer: club elections will be next meeting, bonfire is upcoming. And apparently Dick Dyer voting was like 2 weeks ago, and there was no advertizement for it and I'm not happy becuase I wanted to vote.
· Yay, the Flaming Faries are back, performing at Serendipity. [post-event comments: it was a great performance, hope you were able to see it becuase despite the problems causeed by rain and wind, it really was a cool show. The Keltic Fariy Mythology was awesome, and so were the wings and the crown and umbrella and mask on fire.]
· John: Needs people 18+ for like an hour-long booktalk project thing. It's on comics, so if your interested let us know
· Nick: The Castle has MOVED LOCATION. It is now approximately here, in the 400 building. Will post better directions if/when I get them.
· Kass: Anime night is at Pirate house, as it's Serendipity this weekend
· SOF: it on the 29th at the usual time
· French Club wants to co-sponsor a games night with Yachting Club. Yes there will be cheese, no you don't need to know French unless you play scrabble

Yachting Club Newsletter, 3 April
hoy, hallo, guten tag, and all sorts of other salutory jargon!
Welcome to the annual twenty-fourth Yachting Club newsletter for '07-'08. Look for it every week, probably on a day that ends in "y". Like "today" or "yesterday" ("tomorrow" is right out). The weather's been really tricky this week, so laminate your newsletter so it won't get wet, and duct tape it to the wall so it won't get blown away.
Thirty-four people attended the last YC meeting....that we know of. We've had better weeks, but we understand that you're all busy. If you can pull yourself away from your homework, though, please come by! And don't forget - if you're at the meeting, sign the guestbook!
The last meeting was, arguably, the most political meeting of the year. We were visited by one of the senate tickets that was running, and they presented their platform to the club. Senate voting was this past Monday, so you've missed your chance if you didn't get to it then, but never fear - there's always next year! After that, we spent the bulk of the meeting taking nominations for next year's officers. If you wanted to make your voice heard but didn't make it to the last meeting, no worries - THIS WEEK is when we'll be finalizing nominations and discussing candidate qualifications. Please come to the meeting - your input is important! You know...democracy and stuff.
Nathan announced that if there was enough interest from the club, he would look into trying to acquire a privateering license for the Yachting Club from the US government. It's not likely to happen, but how cool would it be anyway? Dana announced that, due to a low turn-out, she was going to have to cancel the camping trip. Kass and Tim want to remind everyone about Minis night and Anime night, which both occur on Fridays. Jon's friend is going to start selling t-shirts online in addition to buttons, so if you want to help select some of the t-shirts she might produce, go to www.nancybuttons.com , pick out your favorites, and talk to Jon Hatch. IMPORTANT POINT FOR SOF PLAYERS: The last Shades of Fey session is Saturday, April 12. PLEASE be there, as it will be the last session (not counting the reveal session) and the epic climax! We want everyone to participate! Also, if any of my (Alan's) players need to talk to me, PLEASE do so before the 12th. Unfortunately, I'll be unable to attend the final session, and I want to make sure that anything that requires my attention is taken care of so that it won't just die with the game!
All sorts of anouncements and geeky fun on the YC website: www.guilford.edu/yachting
Preview of this week's meeting:
- Moment of Darkness, or, "Brock?"
- The Obligatory GuilcoEGG Point Will Not Occur This Week point, or, "Join GuilcoEGG!"

- Elections point, or, "Do your civic duty...next week!"
- Discussion and finalization of candidates for next year's officers

- DEMO: depends on how long the discussion goes. If it's long, we may not have one.

Ahoy, hallo, guten tag, and all sorts of other salutory jargon!
The countdown begins! We are now, officially, just days away from Spring Break! Hang in there...it'll be worth it!
Welcome to the annual twenty-first Yachting Club newsletter for '07-'08. Look for it every week, probably on a day that ends in "y". Like "today" or "yesterday" ("tomorrow" is right out). Gary Gygax, creator of the iconic RPG Dungeons & Dragons, died this week, so print out your newsletter and craft it into a mourner's veil to show respect for the man who (arguably) legitimized gaming.
FORTY-TWO(!!!) people attended the last YC meeting....that we know of. That's a great turnout, and we hope we can keep it up this week, too! Don't forget - if you're at the meeting, sign the guestbook!
The last meeting was on the short side...in the few weeks between What The Hell?!? Con and Spring Break, people don't seem to be doing a whole lot. I suspect that will change after break, however. One of the first of the last "big games" of Shades of Fey was announced, and then took place this past Satuday. If you were there, it was awesome. If you weren't there, then you missed out on some serious awesome. A trip to a castle is being planned for after break, as well as a camping trip. More information about those will be available in the near future.
Kass has announced that there will be no Anime night this week (Friday, 7 March).

Yachting Club Newsletter, 26 February
Ahoy, guten tag, and all that other stuff Alan likes to say in the intro to the newsletter!
Here’s our handy dandy recap of last week:
0. Moment of Darkness – You know the drill.
1. Obligatory EGG Point – Join EGG! Jon’s been really really busy, so he doesn’t have time to run things. You know what that means? It means YOU should run things. Jon has a lot of games he’s willing to loan out for you to GM or just run a one-shot.
2. Castle Trip – A castle trip is on the horizon! This year, there will be a Vampire: Dark Ages LARP and Jon Hatch games for a day of chuckles and glee (and medieval vampires). Stay tuned for more information.
3. Camping trip – Yachters should camp together because it’s outdoorsy and we should probably get used to the fact that fun can be had outside of our dorm rooms – you know, where there’s sunshine and stuff.
4. Movie Trips – Awesome movies are coming up. So organize a movie trip!
5. The Castle – The Castle (the rpg shop, not the Dark Ages LARP trip) has games for sale and hosts tournaments to fulfill your geeky needs.
6. Announcements – available on the Yachting website: www.guilford.edu/yachting
7. Demo: Dr. Who, “Blink,” also know as “The Weeping Angel Episode.” A very creepy introduction to Dr. Who. If you missed it, you missed out!
Here’s a look at this week’s meeting:
0. Moment of Darkness – what, again?
1. Castle Trip – tentative date March 29
2. SoF Schedule Point – wacky scheduling things are happening in Shades of Fae. Keep up to date so you don’t miss out!
3. Camping Trip – More information!
4. Week of Yacht – it’s almost spring break, and we all know what that means! Week of Yacht! Fun stuff for those yachters out there who are sticking around for the break.
5. Demo: Mao! The card game where – wait, I can’t tell you that.

FORTY-ONE people attended the last YC meeting....that we know of. That's a great turnout, and we hope we can keep it up this week, too! Don't forget - if you're at the meeting, sign the guestbook!
The last meeting was our post-WTHCon meeting, so it was pretty informal. the Con had an official registration of 389 people, with an estimated 50-70 people who attended events but didn't register. Unless I'm mistaken, that makes this year's WTHCon the biggest it's ever been. Additional kudos to everyone who devoted their weekend to making the Con great, especially Lindsay Lavenhar and Amber Reed and Kass (who hath no surname)! Derek was wearing a pink shirt. Zack and Oran announced that they were running for Senate next year, and pitched their campaign to the Yachting Club. Max also announced the formation of a YC writing group, for people who like to write original material, and want more of an excuse to do so! Sarah W. also pitched the WizKids convention weekend that is happening at The Castle (the new local gaming/nerd shop, for those of y'all who haven't been paying attention) THIS weekend.

· WTHC: You've heard everything already. Help bring boxes over on Sun morning for the Daikaiju Battle, and if you're running something, be there on time.

Ahoy, hallo, guten tag, and all sorts of other salutory jargon!
((Sorry for the lateness of this week's newsletter. An unexpected double-shift at work and lots of homework pushed me back later than I wanted))
Welcome to the annual seventeenth Yachting Club newsletter for '07-'08. Look for it every week, probably on a day that ends in "y". Like "today" or "yesterday" ("tomorrow" is right out). It's pretty breezy today, so print out this week's newsletter and make it into a kite!
FORTY-NINE people attended the last YC meeting....that we know of. That's a great turnout, and we hope we can keep it up this week, too! Don't forget - if you're at the meeting, sign the guestbook!
Eric announced last week that the Yachting Club calender is FINALLY finished, and because of it's late printing, will begin with February isntead of January. Calenders should be coming in soon, if they're not here already. Rachel Crews and Jenee Gossen reminded all the geek boys out there that the Geek Auction is coming up next weekend at WTHCon, so if you want to participate, make sure you talk to one of them. A handful of other people gave hints or sneak-peeks about what they'll be doing at the Con, so come to the next two meetings (counting this one) to score some more sweet spoilers! The Shades of Fey game is happening normally this week, in the usual place at the usual time. Lots of events are going on at The Castle during February, so check it out! Alison reminded us that directly beneath the room where we meet is a quite lab, so feel free to have fun, but please try not to stomp and jump and cause too much of a ruckus!

· WTHCon: you know the drill. Gophers we need them. Also, if you're gophering we need to know your t-shirt size and what events or times you CANNOT gopher during. Otherwise we will not account for this in your schedule.
- We still need donations for the silent auction. Remember, it's for charity and we'd love geeky things you don't want anymore. Give them to Lindsay, or Amber, or someone at the Fortress.
- We also need cardborad boxes for the Daikaiju Battle. There are many at the Castle, so if you have a car please get some?
- If you are running a room, or event, it's time to get it together. We do not do this for you, this is YOUR job. If you need help you can ask and we will, but the less I have to do the better.
- Any song requests for the dance go to James
· Yachting Library Update: We've got copies of "Renegade Nuns on Wheels", and "Batwinged Bimbos from Hell". Again, the Library hours are 4-5pm on Sundays or by appointment with Kass. If people are free this Sunday, help him find duplicates of stuff for the silent auction.
· Derek: Wed 2-4 pm, King 123. Come play videogames!
· Eric: The Yachting Calendars are finished, and ordered
· Anna: Pride is having a Sex Workers Art Show on Feb 2nd and would love people to volunteer to help or donate so that it will happen
· Winddancer: The Castle. Reminder that Fri's are WoW card games at 7pm.
- This Sat at 2pm demos of Sundrah are being run again. If you can't make it they will be at the convention.
- Sat is also Wizkids games. Feb is also wizkids tournaments? There are 23 events in Feb and they've got lots of cool prizes
- Don't forget that The Castle also sells food. They will also have a bulletin board up soon for people wanted to advertise games and stuff like that.
- If you want a game or a comic or something: DON'T ORDER IT ONLINE. If you order it from the store, you don't have to pay shipping. You still get 5% off pre-orders if you pay up front, and Jan and Feb they are trying something new. If you pay cash, you get 10% off. They do have catalogues you can look through too.
· Cara: CLoverfield was awesome and you should all go see it
· Kass: Anime night is 6 pm Fri in King 123
· Alison: Got the RPG Grimm, where you are kids in twisted fairytale land. Ran a one-shot and it went well, is thinking of doing a campaign

Welcome to the annual fifteenth Yachting Club newsletter for '07-'08. Look for it every week, probably on a day that ends in "y". Like "today" or "yesterday" ("tomorrow" is right out). Not many announcements this week - things are still gearing up. It's most likely too late to do it for XP, but don't forget to turn in your downtimes if you've got something important you wanted to take care of! And then start planning for the next game.

Yachting Club Newsletter, 14 November
Ahoy, hallo, guten tag, and all sorts of other salutory jargon!
Welcome to the annual eleventh Yachting Club newsletter for '07-'08. Look for it every week, probably on a day that ends in "y". Like "today" or "yesterday" ("tomorrow" is right out). I'm feeling theatrical today, so I challenge you to read the newsletter as though it were a Shakespearean recitation by Patrick Stewart (and good luck to ya).
Thirty-two people attended the last YC meeting....that we know of. Don't forget - if you're at the meeting, sign the guestbook!
At the last meeting, we gave everyone fair warning that the deadline for T-shirt idea submissions was up. That's right...no more submissions will be accepted. Why? Because we'll be voting THIS WEEK! The first announcement about Study Break was made, and it will be happening on Friday, 7 December. This will be a fun opportunity to procrastinate those exams a little longer with games, games, games, games, food, games, games, games, and spam. Um, I mean, "games". If you're interested in playing online Nomic, email Jon Hatch ASAP - I think the game is getting ready to start up. The trip to Calibers is coming up on Friday, so if you don't already have the details and you're interested in going, contact Steven Lim. Shades of Fey players, don't forget to start thinking up your next downtimes!
Also, Yachting Club has a new little sister - the Archery Club! If you like shooting arrows, or would like to learn how to shoot arrows, check it out! Practice is 2:30 (I think that's right, Lindsay!) on Tuesdays and Fridays, and regular club meetings are on Wednesdays at 2:30. Also, Kass wants to remind everyone that the YC library is open on Sundays from 4-5 pm. If you want to check something out, you can come by then, or make an appointment if that time isn't convenient for you.
Also also, attendees of this weeks YC meeting will be asked if they'd be willing to fill out a survey I (Alan) am administering as part of my PSY 445 course. Participation is completely voluntary and no one is required to fill it out, but if you want to make one frazzled psychology major very, very happy, I hope you'll be willing to take a few extra minutes before the demo to do so!

The last meeting was resonably brief, and included discussion of T-shirt submissions (t-shirt design ideas are due at THIS MEETING!), and a little preliminary stuff about What The Hell!?! Con coming up in the spring. Max announced that Game Night has been moved to Mondays at 6:00 pm, and several people announced that they wanted to run or play in a number of RPGs...come to the meeting to find out what, what games, and when. The next Shades of Fey game is THIS SATURDAY (10 November), so if you haven't already turned in a downtime to your ST, make sure to get on that right away!

So basically an intergalactic war between 2 alien races, the mafia, and super spy people. Without the rest of the convention knowing what's going on. This would all be planned ahead of time, but you really have to commit to doing it for the whole con.

· The Halloween Bash is next weekend (Nov 3rd) at 8pm in the Community Center. Immediatly after the dance is Rocky Horrow Picture Show at 11:30 pm in Bryan Jr. Also, send song requests to our DJ, James
· T-shirts! Submit design ideas to officers or at the meeting by Nov 8th. We will vote on designs the following meeting. You get three colors, plus the color of the shirt.
· We need people to run rooms, events, games, and to be gophers at What the Hell Con. If you want to run someting, help out somehow, or have questions send us an e-mail
· The current deadline for the calendars is Nov 6th. If you haven't gotten your pic done yet, talk to your photographer. We're also trying to plan a giant photo-shoot next weekend for those who need to get their pics done.
· Oh yeah, and for those of who weren't here for Week of Yacht, it rocked. And you should stay over spring break.
· Lim: getting together a group to goto Caliber's Indoor Firing Range. Yachting Club mau be covering the range fee, but you still have to rent your own gun and get ammo. More on this at the next meeting ^^
· Max: The cake is a lie.

· Tim: Is going out and making a table for miniatures this weekend. Now you don't have to use the floor anymore.
· Paul: We're going to ICC this week to try and get the rest of the money to pay Greg Stolze so he can come to the con.
· Paul: Requiem! It's like a drug. Requiem is a vampire LARP which is a lot more politically-oriented than SOF.
· Lindsay: The archery club will not be meeting yet, we still need to talk to Aaron Fetrow some more. Will be meeting with him next thurs, hopefully we can finally get things figure out
Yachting Club newsletter, 24 October
Hello, everyone! Please excuse the lateness of this newsletter. I was fending off zombies for most of the week and have just now found time to sit down and write this up.
So, recap from foreeeeeeeeeever ago (well, a week):
0. Oh-so-scary moment of darkness. Admit it. You were scared.
1. Giant Tsuro Board: It's coming along swimmingly.
2. Renfaire Review: it was fun, apparently. And there was a storm trooper in a kilt. That, my friends, is awesome.
3. Week of Yacht: We talked about some planning, such as meals on Tuesday and Friday, Arkham Horror, the Lovecraft-themed game which Jon provided Tuesday, some movies and and some gaming.
4. T-Shirt Design - Design Yachting Club '07-08 T-shirts to be voted upon in the future!
Also, anyone who might know the whereabouts of Jon Hatch's books Shadows over Baker Street and Love & Other Near Death Experiences, please let him know.
Coming up this week we have:
0. Moment of Darkness again! Beware! It will be dark.
1. T-Shirts...come on, folks, you know you've got some really geeky ideas.
2. What the Hell Con - Stolze update, I believe.
3. Halloween Bash/Rocky Horror: Updates, updates, updates.
4. Obligatory EGG reminder. Join guilcoegg@groups.yahoo.com .
5. Week of Yacht - how did it go?
Yours truly,
Alison "the Doctor" McKenzie
Alan "the Dentist" Rhodes
10/11/2007 Turnout= 37
· The giant Tsuro board has been broken in, we played last wed I think. The board people or whoever never showed up (and even if they had, I have no idea what we really would have done....) Anyway, it rocked. We still need to paint it, we're gonna try to over break.
· Renfaire: about 10 people went, and it was awesome. There was a giant rocking horse, wenches, and lots of costumes. The best was a storm trouper in a kilt. Pics? It goes until min-November if anyone still wants to go, it just costs more and Yachting won't help pay for you
· T-shirt Design: There are self-designed t-shirts every year that the club gets. So we need your designs! You don't have to be artistically inclined, we can get someone else to do the drawing we just need the ideas. The club votes on them in 2-3 weeks after break, so get them in now!
· Eric: The new special edition of Serenity is out! You should buy it, the proceeds will hopefully fund a second movie
· Jon: Join EGG
· David: Trials and Tribulations came out, and wants to have a LARP. It would be like a courtroom/murder mystery kind of thing. Might be next semester, or maybe at WtHCon
· Theo: The new magic set, Lorwin, comes out tomorrow. Its kinda like SOF, in terms of creatures and creature types. Looks like fun.
· Rachel Crews: Stephen Colbert just came out with a book, I Am America (And So Can You!)
· Derek: Volunteers for the Halloween Bash? Check your e-mails. Requests go to James.
· Dave: MACE is Nov 17th. Heroscape, Blood Bowl, Assassins, Magic tournaments. Talk to him about it
· JP: Nov 3rd is a block party downtown (near Geckohouse?). There's a lot of Guilford Alums, and will be firedancing, smashing a pumpkin or two with as many old computers or computer parts they can find, and trampoline +boffer weapons
· Kass: Steve Jackson Games officially has us on their convention list, and may be sending someone for an official tourney. We also may be getting on the White Wolf con list, but if not we're still getting 5 of their prize packs for door prizes. His godfather is also a professional auctioneer, and is going to be running the Geek Auction. (we'll still need a few girls to help run it too)
· Lindsay: Mae, the main founder of Yachting Club, is coming to the convention. And she just got engaged last weekend to another Yachter =D
Yachting Club newsletter, 10 October
Ahoy, hallo, guten tag, and all sorts of other salutory jargon!
Welcome to the annual fifth Yachting Club newsletter for '07-'08. Look for it every week, probably on a day that ends in "y". Like "today" or "yesterday" ("tomorrow" is right out).
Thirty-six people attended the last YC meeting....that we know of. Don't forget - if you're at the meeting, sign the guestbook!
The last meeting centered around discussion of this year's fall break Week of Yacht and some of the plans for that. Interested in communal meals? We've got those! Interested in epic-length roleplaying sessions with your friends? We've got that! Interested in small puppies challenging Godzilla and Mr. Rogers in to-the-death gladiator matches armed only with tube socks and a box of strike-anywhere matches? Hmm...I'm not sure if we have that or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's on the Internet. For those interested in doing a little gaming on their own terms, MACE - the Mid-Atlantic Convention Expo - is coming up November 16-18 in High Point. If you're a convention junkie, start looking into it! There will be no Shades of Fey this weekend, since fall break (woooo!) is starting, so the next game will be 27 October. Still, get your downtimes in ASAP, because there will be a SECOND downtime period before the game. That's another chance to snag some sweet XP!
All sorts of anouncements and geeky fun on the YC website: www.guilford.edu/yachting
Preview of this week's meeting:
- Introductory Meditations, or, "The Moment of Darkness"
- Giant Tsuro Board, or, "It's Just a Jump To The Left"
- Renaissance Festival recap, or, "Forsooth, Anon, and Thither, and Whatnot"
- Week of Yacht, or, "If You Host It, They Will Come"
- T-Shirt Designs, or, "Wait...What? T-Shirts?"
- Announcements, or, "What a Terrible Death, To Be Talked To Death"
- DEMO: Twilight Imperium and Jon Hatch games, or, "Don't Play With Yourself, Play With Other People"
See ya, space cowboys!

Alison "Explosions" McKenzie
10/4/2007 Turnout= 34
· SOF: no game on the 13th because people are gone. If you want to run a scene talk to your storyteller. Next game is Oct 27th.
· Send James, our wonderful DJ for the Halloween Bash, any song requests
· The Amtgard event on Sat went well, they were able to get about 35 people playing all at once and it rocked. This included parents and grandparents, who told the Dean how cool it was and how much they liked it. Amtgard also now starts at 2 pm on Saturdays
· MACE con is Nov 16-18. David Barron is going to be running Twilight Imperium, and I think some Magic tournaments. It's $35 to get in for the weekend, but there may be a $10 discount for a group rate. Might be able to get Yachting to sponsor part of this? There will be a demo (NOT a game) of Twilight Imperium. Because its a really, really long game
· Week of Yacht. For the people staying here over break, there will be lots of board games, one-shots, hanging out and having fun while everyone else is gone. Yachting Club provides two dinners for people as well, we haven't decided what they're going to be yet. Nathan's planning on having a big gaming session from like 11am-4am at some point, just all sorts of games and movies and just enjoying break. ALSO if you are staying, you need to go sign up at Resident Life, 2nd floor Founders, or they'll kick you out
· Guillermo del Toro, director of Blade 2, Hellboy, and Pans Labyrinth is going to be directing Hellboy 2 and Mountains of Madness
· Kevin is going to run the D&D evil dungeons overlord game over break
· Brian Sinclair is in charge of CubeCon (spelling?) over at UNCG which is Nov 3rd. It's free but its a fundraiser. There's going to be lots of games and stuff, a silent art auction, etc.
· Renfaire is $5 each, bring a few dollars for gas, and meet at 8:30 am. If you're late, too bad. E-mail Rachel if you have questions
· Anime Night has started it's regular schedule, and it Rocked. Meets 6:30 pm Fri in King 123
· Alison is thinking about a trip to do lasertag. Anyone interested?

Announcements: Don't know those yet. They haven't happened.
Demo: Derek is running his MST3K demo. MST3K stands for Mystery Science Theater 3000, if you don't know. It's basically loudly making fun of bad movies, but trying to be clever and funny about it.
Sincerely,
Alison "Mew?" McKenzie

· SOF is still 6 pm Sat, upstairs Founders. If you're in a side-scene, BE THERE at 6. The main game starts at 7 pm. · EGG: Jon is busy and can't run games this semester, but he will lend out the books to anyone interested. Cell Gamma anyone?

· MST3k night is the demo next week, and we're watching Luche Libre

· Archery Club sis probably going to be Wed, demo is 4:30ish, practice is 5:30ish. Will probably be starting Fall break or the week after.

Addendum:
This email was received from Dave Dobson (right after I sent the newsletter):
"Hi, Yachting Club Newsletter Overlords:
A new version of my online game Sultan will begin next Monday, September 24th, and I'd like to invite the Yachters to participate. The previous two times I've run the game, back in 2004 and 2005, it's been quite popular among members of the club. I think Jon Hatch will say something at the meeting on Thursday, but if you could include it in your newsletter, that would be great.
The game is played via the web over the course of a few weeks (the game length is partially determined by the players' actions). Players get turns every day and can use them in a variety of ways.
The site for the game is: http://snood.pair.com/sultan
There are fairly complete rules there. Yachters are free to invite anybody else - it doesn't have to be restricted to Guilford folks. The more the merrier. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Dave"
So check it out!

· Amtgard is going to be 2:30 pm, out in front of Duke.
· Anime Night is going to be in King 123. Not this week though because of Dark Crystal. If you have the full series of something, e-mail Kass with a list of titles and what genre they are. And NOTHING from Cartoon Network, or over 30 episodes.
· Renfaire: Sat Oct 6th (opening weekend). Tickets will be $10 per person, might be getting some reimbursement from Yachting Club, not sure yet. We will be carpooling, and leaving at 8:30 am; it's about an hour and a half drive.
· Eric needs some info from the people who wanted to be in the Yachting Calendar. If you didn't sign up before, and still want to be in it, let him know.
· Derek is thinking about a weekly, or at least regular bad movie/MST3k night. Nathan is also going to be having Bad Movie night (aka all day) at some point, about once per semester.
· There is not going to be a weekly tabletop game of Diplomacy, only the one on the Yahoo Group: GuilfordDiplomacy
· Jerry is thinking about a Yachting soundtrack. Anyone have suggestions? Non-mainstream music ONLY
· Brock has a lot of possible terrain for tabletop games if you want it.
· JD is now the Social Representative for Senate
· JP wants to set up some console gaming tourneys for Super Smash Bros and a few other games.
· We should set up some trips to a costume store or a thrift store for SOG. Halloween stores right after Hallween are also good.
· Lim says goto woot.com (there are links on the links page for this now)
· Kass says come to Senate meeting this wed (12th). If you want to support Yachting Club in saying that you don't want the club to be forced to do community service or co-run an event with another club, please, please show up. Dark Crystal is also (today) at 7pm in the Leak Room. Sept 15th is also Pagan Pride festival.
· Tim wants to know if anyone is interested in having some regular nerf gun fights
· The Archery Club is being discussed at Senate this Wed (the 12th) also. If you are interested in having an archery club, please, please show up. If no one shows up, no club. I'll be sending out a reminder e-mail Tues night.
Yachting Club newsletter, 5 September
Good morning, sports racers. It's the second newsletter! Aren't you excited? I know I am!
Last meeting was, naturally, incredibly awesome, and if you couldn't make it, I feel sorry for you. Truly. I really, really do. A lot.
Points:
1. Movie day/amtguard
Last Saturday at 3pm in the Leak Room Nathan hosted a fantasy movie viewing to help generate ideas for SOF, and amtguard was included (outside of course). If you don't know what amtguard is, imagine you're a knight in a battle, 'cept all your weapons are squishy so no one actually gets hurt, and no hitting people in the head.
2. Shades of Fey
SOF starts Saturday, September 15! Wooo! There is a demo this week for all the prospective fairies. This is the time to start coming up with ideas and learning a little bit about the system.
3. Sylvia's mystery point
Sylvia returned had a sneaky, secret point that turned out that she and Dani had a gift for Paul, the commodore...a lovely hat! It was quite soft and had a feather and a bow on it, and, of course, and inflatable boat on top.
4. Orphans
Orphaned Yachting Club projects and events were discussed, and some volunteers were found. Go people with initiative!
5. Announcements Details about announcements can be found at the Yachting website: http://www.guilford.edu/yachting
Demo: Introductions!
Introductions went fairly quickly this year. We were finished by midnight, and only a few people had to be rushed on. We had 18 freshmen show up.
A glance at next meeting:
Points:
-How did Saturday's movie viewing go?
-Amtgard
-Jon Hatch's Obligatory EGG Point
-Renfaire
-Demo-Shades of Fey! Be there and don't forget your imagination!
-Announcements
Our deepest sympathies,

· Josie wants to watch the new (and final) season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, on Sept. 21st at 8:00pm. It's on Nickelodeon. She also wants to do a marathon of the first two seasons.

· Eric is working on organizing a Yachting Club Calendar with the Photo Club. A lot of people signed up, hopefully it will happen ^^

Yachting Club newsletter, 28 August
Ahoy, hallo, guten tag, and all sorts of other salutory jargon!
Welcome to the first installment of the Yachting Club weekly newsletter for '07-'08. Look for it every week, probably on one of those days that ends in "y".
Last week was the unofficial first meeting of the Yachting Club. In a totally epic turn of events, we had over 65 people in attendance. Fire code? Pssh. This year's officers were re-introduced to the club, and announcements included pimping the Experimental Gaming Group (GuilcoEGG) for playing indie RPGs, first announcement of SoF - Shades of Fey (this year's club-sponsored LARP), and a movie-watching session on Saturday, 1 September in the Leak Room, and griefing about the broken AC in Bauman. *sad face*
But seriously, come to the Leak Room on 1 Sept. from 3-9 to watch all sorts of movies and hopefully find some inspiration for a kick-arse SoF character!
The Campus Organization Fair is Wednesday, 29 August, from 2:30-4:00. Yachting Club will have a booth, so if you want to help out come at 2!
All sorts of announcements and geeky fun on the YC website: www.guilford.edu/yachting
Preview of this weeks meeting:
- Shades of Fey and Character Surveys, or, "What Kind of Faerie Are You?"
- Sylvia Returneth, or, "The Mystery Point"
- Who Wants To Run Something?, or, "Orphaned Events"
- Announcements, or, "What a Terrible Death, To Be Talked To Death"
- DEMO: Introductions, or, "What's a Girl/Guy/Small Green Alien Like You Doing In A Place Like This?"
See ya, space cowboys!

8/23/2007 Turnout=65
Again, this was a club record in terms of how many people came to the meeting, plus we had lots of Frosh. Go Yachting! Anyway, there were a lot of important announcements:
· The Club Fair is next wed, the 29th, outside Founders. You should come visit our table/say hi, give us your e-mail if you haven't yet so you can get the newsletter, and check out the other clubs. I'll be spinning fire, and I'm also trying to get an archery club started up. If anyone's interested, *please* let me know. If it doesn't get its own club, it will probably be formed under Yachting Club.
· The survey sheet for Shades of Fae, our year-long LARP (Live-Action Role Play), is available with directions on when to fill it out/and who to send it to on the SOF page. The movie fest is also coming up really soon, I'll get the date for that and let people know when it is.
· Gods of Guilford (GOG) is a one-shot LARP that Jon Hatch and Ben Marlin, our club advisors, will be running this fall. So you're a god. Well, not really. People just think you are because you just *happened* to be throwing lightening bolts around and wielding a hammer, and someone just *happened* to see you. Now you are know by the locals as Thor. The character questionnaire is up on GuilcoEGG.
· Derek wants to get a Halloween Bash together. E-mail him with idea's suggestions, etc?
· Nick Boylan is running Wild Talents. Greg Stolze, the big guest at our con last year/also coming this year, has asked us to play-test the beta version of an expansion. If you are interested in playing, get in touch with Nick.
· Anna likes going to cons. So do you. Talk to her, we can make it happen. The club will even help pay for it, and it will be lots of fun and awesomeness.
· There is going to be a new Special Edition of Serenity coming out. Go buy it! If they make good sales on it, they may, *hopefully, fingers crossed* make a second Firefly movie. /wants
· Amtgard will be starting up at some point soon, we will be deciding the regular meeting time for that at P.M.S. (Pre-Meeting Symposium). P.M.S. is the (not-just-but-usually-only-officers) meeting every Noon Sunday in Boren Lounge (Founders). That is where we decide stuff, like what goes on in the next meeting, etc. Amtgard is where you get to hit people with big foam weapons and just have fun running around being silly awesome.
· Nathan wants to apply for a Privateer's License with the US gov't. Which means, if-it's-approved-which-it-won't-be-but-anyway, we would officially be pirates, which would rock hardcore. Pirates for the win! Then we'll really need a yacht...
· Geko House has lots of cool stuff, such as videogame nights on Thursdays (I guess you could go after yachting), as well as other general LANing, playing Magic the Gathering, and Axis and Allies on a giant magnetic board on the wall. They're located at 217 North Cedar Street.
· Pirate House is also often open for watching anime, movies, or playing games. They also have a rather large anime, video, manga, and regular library available for borrowing and or use. Go past Frank, across the football field. It's across the New Garden Rd, and it's got a giant pirate flag, you shouldn't miss it.
· The Yachting Library hours for this week are 4-5pm on Sun. These are probably the regular hours, you can also talk to him to schedule an appointment or something.
· Kass also may be running the weekly Anime Night. We have several other weekly meetings that need people to run them, such as DDR. Anyone up for it? Let me or another officer know, or make an announcement at one of the general meetings.
· JD is running for....social somethingerother in Senate. I forgot what it was exactly, I'll have to ask him, but you should vote for him on Aug. 31st. If you want to join Senate, you have until this Fri, aka tomorrow/today to fill those out at the Info Desk in Founders.
· Requiem is a vampire LARP run by Nick Popio, an Alumni. There is a group in Greensboro, Raleigh, and on the web. They meet on the off weeks of SOF, and alternate between here and Raleigh. Vampires are running all the major corporations.
