GUILFORD RANKED IN PRESEASON ODAC POLLS
Salem, VA (8/29/01) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) recently released its 2001 coaches polls for the fall sports season. Guilfords mens and womens soccer programs were ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, while the Quakers volleyball team placed eighth.
Guilford's mens soccer program returns 15 letter winners from last years 6-11 team that reached the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament. Head coach Liam Behrens enters his fifth season welcoming back nine starters, including 2000 All-ODAC selection Tim Imafidon (Raleigh, NC/Wake Forest-Rolesville). Guilford opens the 2001 season September 1 in the Maryville Tournament against Maryville.
The womens soccer team continues to rebuild as head coach Forrest Collier returns for his second season returning nine starters including post-season honorees, Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) and Lori Layton (Westerville, OH/New Albany). The women begin their campaign September 1 in the Greensboro College Tournament against Fontbonne.
Young is the term for this years womens volleyball team. There are five returning letter winners and nine newcomers. With no seniors and only two juniors, the team looks to 2000 second team All-ODAC pick Jennifer Pue-Gilchrist (Garner, NC/Leesville Road) to lead the way this year. Coach Chuck McCrackens club opens the year September 1-2 at Averett Colleges Cougar Classic.
