Salem, VA (9/3/98) -- Freshman CiCi Castle scored two second-half goals as host Roanoke downed Guilford, 4-2, in the season opener for both Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) teams.
The Maroons (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Tori Erickson (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) tally 22:25 into the game. Guilford (0-1, 0-1) tied the match 11 minutes later on rookie Amy Evans' (New Bern, NC/New Bern) first collegiate goal. The Quakers' score snapped a string of 313 minutes without a goal against the Maroons. Roanoke took a 2-1 halftime lead on an unassisted goal by Melissa Stanhewicz with just under four minutes left in first half.
Castle's tallies gave the hosts a 4-1 advantage before Guilford sophomore Jessica Lee (Wadsworth, NY/York Central) scored with 4:13 left in the game.
Guilford lost senior first team All-ODAC midfielder Alison Schott (Lyons, NY/Lyons) late in the game with a serious ankle injury. Her status for Sunday's (9/5) home opener against Sewanee is uncertain.
