EVANS REPEATS AS ODAC SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greensboro, NC (10/22/01) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected Guilford senior Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) as its Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 15, the league announced Monday. Evans, who also received the prize for the week of October 8, earned the honor for the sixth time in her career.
Evans
scored two goals in Guilford's 1-1 week. After being held without a shot by
ODAC-rival Washington and Lee October 16, she tallied twice in the Quakers' 3-2
road win over Emory & Henry. Evans scored on a first-half penalty kick and
later broke a 2-2 tie with the game-winner in the 85th minute. The victory
clinched Guilford's 11th ODAC Tournament bid in as many years of league
membership.
Evans leads the ODAC with 22 goals and 55 points, both school records, and ranked 15th among the Division III points per game leaders as of October 13. With her two goals last week, Evans moved into fourth on the league's career goals list with 69. Her 159 points in 73 career matches rank sixth on the ODAC's career scoring list. The two-time first team all-conference pick holds five Guilford records.
Coach Forrest Collier's Quakers (8-10-1) open ODAC Tournament play Tuesday, October 23, at two-time defending league champion Lynchburg (15-1-2) at 2:30 p.m.
