GUILFORD DOWNS AGNES SCOTT, 2-1, FOR FIRST WOMEN'S SOCCER WIN

Greensboro, NC (09/08/00) -- Guilford head coach Forrest Collier recorded his first collegiate coaching win Friday as Guilford's women's soccer team held off visiting Agnes Scott, 2-1, on Haworth Field. Collier, a 1995 Guilford alumnus, is in his first season as the Quakers' head coach.

Juniors Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) and Erica Brammer (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI/University-Liggett) each tallied to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. Senior forward Heather Holm beat Guilford keeper Jenny Akman (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day) in the 74th minute to trim the Scotties' (2-1) deficit to 2-1. The Quakers' defense prevailed in the game's final moments to preserve the win.

The victory ended a four-game winless slide for Guilford, dating back to last year. It also marked a string of three games in as many days. The Quakers host Emory & Henry in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday at 3:30 and Southwestern University of Texas Sunday at 1:00 pm.
