LYNCHBURG WINS ODAC WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENER OVER GUILFORD

Greensboro, NC (09/06/00) - Senior midfielder Kristen Kowit (Lakewood, NJ/Red Bank Mendham) scored two goals as visiting Lynchburg began defense of its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title with a 6-0 win over Guilford Wednesday.  Kowit is the defending ODAC Women's Soccer Player of the Year.

Sophomore Nicole Wisniewski (Berlin, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep) knocked in a cross from Kerrie Swarts (Lewisberry, PA/Redland) from close range just over three minutes into the game to give the Hornets (3-0, 1-0 ODAC) the lead. Kowit followed with back-to-back scores about 13 minutes apart as Lynchburg held a 3-0 halftime lead.

Junior Jessica Petykowski (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) started the second-half scoring less than five minutes into the second half. Junior Erin Steeper (Herndon, VA/Herndon) and senior Sandra Bridges (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) closed out the scoring.

Guilford senior goaltender Jenny Akman (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day) made a season-high 16 saves in goal.
