EVANS LEADS GUILFORD SOCCER OVER SWEET BRIAR, 3-1

Greensboro, NC (10/13/00) -- Junior Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) scored two first-half goals 32 seconds apart to lead visiting Guilford past Sweet Briar, 3-1, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's soccer match Friday. The win snapped the Quakers' (5-10-1, 4-6 ODAC) three-match losing streak.

Evans put Guilford on the board with 4:43 left in the first half with a goal set up by junior Angela Rioux (Harpswell, ME/Mt. Ararat). Senior Abbey Weiner (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) assisted on Evans' second tally 32 seconds later to give the guests a 2-0 halftime advantage. With her team-leading eighth and ninth goals of the season, Evans became the first Guilford women's soccer player to reach the 100-career points plateau. She enters Saturday's regular-season finale with 46 goals and 10 assists for a school-record 102 points.

Sweet Briar (1-13, 0-9 ODAC) scored nine minutes into the second half to trim the Quakers' margin to 2-1, but Guilford sophomore Kasie Gray (White River Junction, VT/Rastk Hartford) put the game away with her first career goal off an assist by rookie Lori Leyton (Westerville, OH/New Albany).
