MAROONS CLAIM 5-0 ODAC WOMEN'S SOCCER WIN OVER GUILFORD

Salem, VA (10/04/00) -- Host Roanoke tied a school record with its eighth straight win Tuesday, a convincing 5-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's soccer decision over Guilford. The Maroons, who have not lost since September 10, improved to 9-2, 7-0 in the ODAC. Guilford falls to 4-9-1 (3-5 ODAC) with its 12th loss in as many meetings with Roanoke.

Junior Leslie Hunt (Baltimore, MD/Towson) made an immediate impact in her season debut by scoring the game-winning goal with just over 15 minutes left in the first half. Her shot from eight yards out deflected off of a Guilford defender and to the back of the net. Two minutes later, freshman Jessica Germano (Windham, ME/Windham) scored her fourth goal in two games. Germano was served with a long ball into the box by Melissa Impink (Hopatcong, NJ,/Hopatcong) and beat the GC goalie.

Shelley Olds (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable) added two goals and an assist in the second half to provide the final margin.

Guilford senior Jenny Akman (Washington, DC/Georgetown) made 15 saves in defeat.
