EVANS LIFTS GUILFORD PAST HOLLINS, 2-1, IN ODAC WOMEN'S SOCCER

Greensboro, NC (09/28/00) — Guilford junior Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) scored a breakaway goal 2:30 into overtime to lift the Quakers to a 2-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's soccer win over Hollins Friday. The win maintained Guilford's perfect record against Hollins in 14 all-time matches.

Evans forced the extra period with a goal in the 64th minute when Hollins defender Savannah McLaughlin tried to block an Evans shot. McLaughlin did not hit it cleanly and the ball caromed into the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Hollins sophomore Tracie Evans (McLean, VA) scored the game's first goal early in the first half on a long shot into the far corner.

Guilford senior goaltender Jenny Akman (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day) made six saves to preserve the win, while Lauren Fifis made 11 stops for Hollins.
