VIRGINIA WESLEYAN DEFEATS GUILFORD, 1-0, IN WOMEN'S SOCCER

Greensboro, NC (09/24/00) — Virginia Wesleyan freshman Katie Barg (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge) scored the game-winning goal early in the second half off an assist from Janet Naclerio (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppage) to give the Marlins a 1-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Guilford Sunday.

Senior goaltender Janine Swanson (South Amboy, NJ/St. Mary's) made six saves for the shutout. Virginia Wesleyan (4-4, 4-1 ODAC) owned an 18-6 advantage in shots.

Guilford, which falls to 2-7-1 (1-4 ODAC) with its fifth straight loss, received 10 saves from senior goalkeeper Jenny Akman (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day).
