EVANS NAMED ODAC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greensboro, NC (09/11/00) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected Guilford College junior Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) as its first ODAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week of the 2000 season. Monday's announcement marks the third time Evans has received the award in her career.
A junior
midfielder, Evans scored two goals and an assist in the Quakers' first five games.
She netted the game-winning tally 9:06 into overtime of Saturday's 2-1 ODAC win over Emory
& Henry. The day before, the two-time all-conference performer notched her first goal
of the season in Guilford's 2-1 triumph over visiting Agnes Scott. She also had an assist
in the Quakers' 1-1 tie with Greensboro September 3.
Evans leads the team with five points (2 goals, 1 assist). With her assist in the Greensboro game, she assumed sole possession of first place on Guilford's career scoring chart. After starting the year tied with Alison Schott '99 with 83 points, Evans now has 88 career markers, including a school-record 39 goals. Her 10 career assists rank fifth among the school's career leaders. Evans led the ODAC in points (44) and goals (19) last season and holds four school scoring standards. She is also a two-year starter on Guilford's basketball team.
Evans' play helped first-year head coach Forrest Collier's club to a 2-3-1 record (1-1 ODAC) through its first five contests. The youthful Quakers, who start five freshmen and a sophomore transfer, host Louisburg Junior College Wednesday (9/13) at 4:00 pm in an exhibition contest.
